Skeletal Expander Pathway

Course Overview:

Join us for an incredible learning experience designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of orthodontic diagnosis, management, and hands-on application specific to  MARPE cases and TADs.  Whether you're looking to expand your expertise in Phase I expansion for very constricted kids or achieve predictable outcomes for adult cases, this course covers everything you’ve ever wanted to know about expansion and how and when to use TAD-supported expanders.

This flagship course from ASAP Pathway is celebrated for helping providers confidently incorporate these techniques into their practice. As the only comprehensive and progressive course of its kind, it has a proven track record of guiding dentists—from those with no prior experience to successfully applying these methods in real-world cases, from straightforward to complex treatment plans, in private practice.  With guided support and live demonstrations, you’ll leave equipped and confident to plan, design, and execute your first cases, all with expert assistance every step of the way.

Every course comes with 30 days of support from Team ASAP including Drs. Lipkin, Nguyen, Weddle and Becker.

PROTOCOL COURSE OPTION:
For those taking our Comprehensive program which consists of Part I and Part II, there is a protocol course option where we will guide you every step of the way in your cases. Support is included not only for 30 days after the course, but throughout the months between Part I, Part II and the Presentation Day. For more information about the Protocol Course Option, please click here.

PART I: Foundation and Basic Techniques

Part I of this course reviews the basics of this technique.  All providers can benefit from this because this is the foundation that will help to make the application of this technique predictable in practice.

This course will present basic orthodontic diagnosis and simplified and practical approach to planning an orthodontic case. We will discuss necessary records and how to approach each case. While we review some basic knowledge, we will primarily focus on cases that would benefit from the use of MSE and/or TADs.

Topics covered include:

  • Case selection: Learn diagnostic and treatment planning modifications depending on your patient presentation: Male, female, age and craniofacial structure.
  • Invisalign Clincheck: Discover how to plan and set up Invisalign Clinchecks for the best possible outcomes.
  • MSE and TADs Planning: Focus on cases that benefit from MSE and TADs, and explore their planning and implementation while utilizing CBCT and other existing 3D software/technology. Lab orders, proper placement procedures and protocols will be reviewed
  • Complications and Failures: Identify most common complications and cause for failures and what can be done from the planning stage in order to prevent such outcomes.
  • Clinical Case Reviews: Analyze clinical cases where MSE and TADs were employed successfully at the end of the second day.
  • Phase I Expansion for Kids: Learn the essentials of managing and diagnosing early-phase expansion cases for pediatric patients and when to use TAD expanders.
  • Orthodontic Diagnosis and MARPE Case Management: Get an in-depth understanding of MARPE cases beyond placement, including full orthodontic diagnosis and practical management strategies.

Hands-on Patient Care:  Participate in hands-on exercises, including MSE placement on models and observation of live patient demonstration of the placement of basic MSE. Participants will be able to see everything up close and understand the flow of the procedure.

Bring your cases and we will guide you to whether it is an ideal case for starting to implement this treatment modality, and we will treatment plan them together so you can go home confident with a plan!

PART II: Advanced Techniques for Practitioners

Part II caters to practitioners looking to enhance their expertise. Dentists who have had prior experience placing MSE/MARPE/TADs will get the most benefit out of this course.  However, we understand that some dentists want to learn more information including the complex cases, and get more in-depth information about preventing complications before starting their first case. Therefore, dentists with no experience in placing MSE/MARPE are also welcome in this course, but keep in mind that since this is an advanced course, attendance in Part I is STRONGLY recommended prior to taking Part II.

In Part II of this series, participants will learn advanced orthodontic diagnosis and clinical applications of MARPE and TADs.

Attendees should possess some basic knowledge of orthodontics and the provider who has treated at least one case prior to the course will benefit the most from this course.

Topics covered include:

  • Advanced Orthodontic Diagnosis: We will go onto advanced orthodontic diagnosis and clinical applications of MSE/MARPE and TADs
  • Invisalign Clinchecks for Complex Cases: Dive deeper into the details and nuances of how to set up more complex cases using Invisalign clinchecks.
  • Digital Planning of MSE: Discussion of digital planning of MSE and how to customize it for more difficult adult cases.
  • Expansion Failures: Explore strategies to predictably avoid expansion failures.
  • Piezotomy for Adult Patients: Introduce Piezotomy for use in adult patients, to make adult cases predictable with a focus on safety and efficacy. We will review failures, possible side effects, emergencies, protocols and related procedures.
  • Hands-On Piezotomy: Experience hands-on training in Piezotomy using 3D printed models. It will be followed by live piezo assisted MARPE placement in the adult patient. Participants will be able to follow all the procedures closely.
  • Using TADs for Skeletal Anchorage: Master advanced TAD techniques for skeletal anchorage to ensure predictable outcomes for challenging cases for use with expansion and inter and intra-arch orthodontic movements.
  • Hands-On TADs Exercises & Live Placement: Gain hands-on experience with TADs through model-based exercises and live patient demonstrations for advanced placement techniques.

A general practitioner should be able to plan and place advanced piezo MSE/MARPE/TADs following completion of the course.
